Community Assistance Program

The Community Assistance Program is designed to coordinate flood mitigation and management objectives at the State level for communities participating in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The Program Officer works directly with the floodplain managers in each participating city and county to ensure compliance with NFIP requirements by providing training in floodplain management, ordinance development and review, technical assistance, compliance inspections, and information and education on flood hazards.

NFIP Communities in Nevada

Currently 34 communities in Nevada participate in the NFIP. Of those, eight communities-Carson City, Clark County, Douglas County, Henderson, Las Vegas, Mesquite, North Las Vegas, and Storey County-have obtained flood insurance premium discounts for their citizens through FEMA's Community Rating System.

Flood Management News

A semi-annual newsletter is published as part of the Community Assistance Program to disseminate information about training opportunities and new developments in floodplain management to local floodplain administrators, state agency staff, state legislators, local elected officials, state coordinators in other states, federal agencies, and others.
