Community Assistance Program

The Community Assistance Program is designed to coordinate flood mitigation and management objectives at the State level for communities participating in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA's) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The Program Officer works directly with the floodplain managers in each participating city and county to ensure compliance with NFIP requirements by providing training in floodplain management, ordinance development and review, technical assistance, compliance inspections, and information and education on flood hazards.
NFIP Communities in Nevada
Currently 34 communities in Nevada participate in the NFIP. Of those, nine communities-Carson City, Clark County, Douglas County, Henderson, Las Vegas, Mesquite, North Las Vegas, Storey County and Washoe County - have obtained flood insurance premium discounts for their citizens through FEMA's Community Rating System.

Nevada Model Floodplain Ordinance
The Model Floodplain Management Ordinance for Nevada Communities meets the minimum standards required to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program. Community adoption of higher standards can be applied towards credit under the Community Rating System (CRS) program and result in reduced premiums for the entire community.
