Programs

The State Engineer is charged with licensing and regulating all water well and related drilling in the State of Nevada. Every well driller, before engaging in the physical drilling of a well, must first submit an Application for Well Driller's License and the required statutory fee of $100.

After the Application for Well Driller's License and accompanying fee have been received and reviewed by the State Engineer, the applicant will be scheduled to take the license examination. The license exam consists of three parts:

• Part 1 - A written exam consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. (Driller Test Instructions)
• Part 2 - A pass/fail examination in which a point on a United States Geological Survey 15-minute quadrangle map must be correctly identified by 1/4 1/4, 1/4, Section, Township and Range.
• Part 3 - An oral interview conducted by the Well Drillers' Advisory Board.

 

Part 1 and Part 2 of the license examination are conducted on the same day. In order to take Part 2 of the exam, an applicant must pass Part 1 with a score of 80% or better. Once an applicant has successfully passed both Part 1 and Part 2 and the State Engineer has recieved all of the required professional references, the applicant will be scheduled to go before the Well Drillers' Advisory Board to take Part 3 of the examination. (See below for scheduled testing times.) All parts of the examintaion must be passed in order for the applicant to obtain a well driller's license.
