Getting Started Many supporting documents and user guides on this CD are Adobe Portable Document Files(PDF). These PDF files are only viewable using Adobe Acrobat or the freeware Acrobat Reader by Adobe Systems Inc. If you do not have one of these utilities you can install Acrobat Reader by clicking on "Install Software" from the "Getting Started" menu and select "Install Acrobat Reader 4.05". The Acrobat Reader provided on this compact disc is compatible with Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT. Versions of Acrobat Reader for UNIX can be downloaded from the Adobe web site. A link to their web site can be found by clicking on "Other Resources" from the main menu. Spatial data files on this CD can only be displayed using GIS software. If you have GIS software such as ARC/INFO, ArcView, MapInfo, GeoMedia, AutoCad Map, etc... installed on your computer you will not need to install ArcExplorer. If you do not already have GIS software, ArcExplorer, by Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI), is provided. ArcExplorer is a freeware program compatible with Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT. To install ArcExplorer click on "Install Software" from the "Getting Started" menu and select "Install ArcExplorer 1.1". There is an option to "Browse Geologic Map" from the main menu. Here you can choose between the PDF version and the ArcExplorer version. The ArcExplorer version is a simple project showing the geologic map units as unique colors. Major roads, city/town locations, placenames, and county boundaries are shown but are not active. This basic ArcExplorer project can be saved to the users hard disk and further modified. NOTE: It is highly recommended that you read the ArcExplorer user guide before installing the software. The user guide contains detailed information on how to use the software and shows how to get additional support from ESRI. A link to the ESRI web site can be found by clicking on "Other Resources" from the main menu.
