Dam Safety Guidelines - Specifications

The State Engineer reviews the construction specifications to ensure that the following are included and addressed appropriately (NAC 535.210(5)):

• Clearing and grubbing of the construction area
• Stripping of unsuitable material
• Location of suitable borrow sources
• Foundation preparation/compaction requirements/cut-off wall requirements
• Embankment material classification, quality control, moisture conditioning and compactive effort
• Geomembrane and geotextile specifications including handling of the material
• Erosion protection
• Concrete, soil cement and roller compacted concrete (RCC) design and specifications
• Material standards, handling and placement.
• Material testing requirements - frequency and type of test
• Methodology for dealing with out of specification materials
• Equipment and appurtenances
• Instrumentation
