Informational Guides

The Division of Water Resources has produced a number of guidance documents to help explain programs and other important information to the public.

Information Series Reports (1960-2000)

The Information Series Reports are a collection of reports dating back to 1960 through 2000 that cover an array of water resource topics. The reports were prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Nevada Division of Water Resources and other contributing partners.

Reconnaissance Series Reports (1960 Statutes of Nevada, Page 339) (1960-1974)

In 1960, the Nevada Legislature enacted special legislation for reconnaissance studies of the ground-water resources of the State by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The studies cover areas within the state where development opportunities exist and where no information as to the groundwater possibilities are available.

River Chronologies and Atlases (1991-2000)

River Chronologies and Atlases are a series of reports that document the history of some of the large river systems within the state.

Water Planning Reports (1969 Statutes of Nevada, Page 239) (1971-Present)

In 1969, the Nevada Legislature directed the State Engineer to develop a comprehensive state water resource plan. The Water Planning Reports, prepared by the Division of Water Resources, were designed to keep Nevadans informed of the development of the State Water Plan.

Water Resource Bulletins (1945 Statutes of Nevada, Page 483) (1945-Present)

In 1945, the Nevada Legislature authorized the Nevada State Engineer to enter into a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey for the purpose of conducting a statewide investigation of ground-water resources throughout the state.

Biennial Reports (1903-1958)

The Biennial Reports are historical reports that chronologically capture the work of the State Engineer’s Office since its creation in 1903. The State Engineer was statutorily required to produce biennial reports to the Governor prior to each legislative session detailing the work of the office.
